WHAT THE CHALLENGE IS 

The 39 Counties program challenges you to complete a volkswalk, or other volkssport event, in each of the 39 counties of Washington state.  The event must actually pass through the county.  You will fill in a special 39 Counties booklet with stamps from each event and/or write-in entries from walks you have already completed, then mail in your booklet when filled to get your patch (above).

 

CHALLENGE START AND END

THIS CHALLENGE HAS BEEN EXTENDED INDEFINITELY.  Due to the popularity of this program, it will become a permanent ESVA/WSC program.  There are no plans to have an ‘end date’ for this challenge at this time.  Each county will have a walk event available at least once every 2 years.  See our list of walks for complete details on which walks are available in which counties. 

 

SPECIAL RULES

*  One event can count for more than one county.  For example, the Coulee Dam YRE counts for Grant, Douglas and Okanogan counties.  This one event stamp, therefore, may appear in the booklet three times.  If in doubt as to what counties an event covers, contact the point-of-contact for the event or check our list.

*  Regular events, YREs or seasonals all count, including bikes, cross-country skis, swims or other volkssport events, as long as the event has an official AVA stamp.  You must pay for credit for the event and fill out a start card.

*  For this challenge, you may write-in past events as long as you did the event for credit and filled out a start card.  Include the YRE or event number (if you have it), town name and approximate date of walk completed. 

 

GETTING YOUR STAMPS

When you finish a walk or other volkssport event, you can get stamps in your 39 Counties booklet at the same time as you get your stamps in your regular AVA Event and Distance booklets.  The 39 Counties program is a separate, state-level program, and stamps in your WSC booklets CANNOT BE TURNED IN TO AVA for the AVA Event and Distance awards programs.  YOU STILL NEED TO ALSO STAMP YOUR AVA BOOKLETS.

 

COST

Cost of the program is $8.00 which includes your booklet, postage and your patch award.  The cost must be paid up front when you order your booklet.  The patch award will be sent to you when you mail in the completed booklet.  The booklet must be mailed in by the program end date.
