Our start location will be at the Crystal Mountain Resort. This popular ski resort in the Mt. Rainier area is a broad basin surrounded by peaks and has spectacular hiking trails. Each of our 3 routes includes various distances, depending on how far you want to walk. But all of the trails feature great mountain views and (hopefully!) some of the state’s best wildflowers. For those wanting lodging, the ski resort has accommodations or the area is within easy distance from Enumclaw.
Awards & Fees: A 100% embroidered multicolored patch in a diamond shape will be available for $7.50. All patches this year have a gold border for the club’s 20th anniversary. 50 only—no reorders. Credit only is $3.00. Free participants are welcome but must register and return a start card. Pre-registration due by 7-11-08. To pre-register for patch, use this form.
Social Dinner on Saturday Night: There will be a bar-b-q dinner on Saturday night on the resort lawn. The price is $25 per person and the meal includes tossed salad, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, mixed fruit, hot dogs (or brats), hamburgers, grilled chicken, cookies, canned soda and water. This price includes service fee and tax. If you plan to attend, mail your check to Marcia Stein, PO Box 3267, Kirkland, WA 98083. Checks must be received by Jul 15th.
Hotel: Stay for the weekend and enjoy a mountain getaway. We have a group discount at the Crystal Mountain Hotels. You can choose your accommodations at www.crystalhotels.com. But to get the discount you’ll have to make your reservations by phone. Reservations: 888-754-6400, 360-663-2262. Request the “VOLKS” or “Volksport Four Plus Foolhardy Folks” discount.
Misc: These are strenuous hikes—wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry water, insect repellant, sunscreen and a snack on the trail. There are restrooms at the start/finish only. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the Crystal Mountain area. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Directions: Northbound I-5: Take exit #127 (SR512) to SR410 East past Enumclaw for 33 miles. Just before the Rainier National Park entrance sign, turn left on Crystal Mountain Blvd. 6 miles to the resort. Southbound I-5: Take exit 142 (SR18) to Auburn. From Auburn, follow SR164 to Enumclaw. From Enumclaw, follow SR410 East for 33 miles and continue as above. There is plenty of parking at the Crystal Mountain Resort and all walks leave from the start location.
